The Highflyers Jump Rope Team, based out of the Katy YMCA in Katy, Texas was established in the fall of 2000 under the leadership of Coach David Cazares and Coach Tammy Aleman Cazares. The team is comprised of jumpers from 1st grade to college and continues to add new members each year.
The team is affiliated to USA Jump Rope and the International Rope Skipping Federation (FISAC-IRSF). Since its first participation in the U.S. Nationals Jump Rope Championship in 2001, the Highflyers have consistently achieved many medals and championships in local, regional, and national level tournaments. In 2015, the team achieved three Grand National titles at the U.S. National Championship. In 2017 Coach D won two additional Grand National titles.
Members of the Highflyers have also been part of Team USA and competed at the 2012, 2014 and 2016 World Rope Skipping Championships in the U.S.A, Hong Kong and Sweden, respectively.
Throughout the year Highflyers attend and teach at various jump rope workshops in Texas. Service is a large part of the Highflyers' experience, and the team makes regular performances locally and within the wider Houston area. This has included performances for: America Heart Association; Ronald McDonald House; America’s Walk for Diabetes; Houston Grand Prix; Final Four Fan Fest; and various schools, churches and other special events. In 2013 two Highflyers performed in the Macy Thanksgiving Parade in New York City as part of a mass jump rope team.
The Highflyers promote hard work, dedication, leadership, and responsibility. These values allow our jumpers to become great athletes and successful in life.
